Matthew 21: 28-31

Jesus left us many parables to explain the kingdom of God. In Matthew, He gives us a picture of repentance and following the will of God.

Matthew 21:28-31 "But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work today in my vineyard. He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. Whether of them twain did the will of his father?"

If you are not walking in the will of God, today is a good day to change that.  If you are, remember to continue to listen and obey the will of God.

The Fall Season

As the fall season begins to show its colors, we are reminded once again that……….

Psalm 19:  1–2  "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge."

Psalm 8:  3–4  "When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?"

Live in the Day

Psalm 118:24 “This is the day which the Lord hath made;  we will rejoice and be glad in it.”

To me, this verse is telling us to “Live in the Day”. It is great to plan ahead, to work, and to strive for better things; however, these are goals and should not be what truly defines your day to day life.

Exodus 32:29  “For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves today to the Lord, even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.”

If being happy, satisfied or self-fulfilled is not something you can have today then you are not living in the day.

Romans 14:17 “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.”

One thing I have learned in the last six months, is that possessions do not bring happiness, peace, or joy. The spirit of Christ in your heart, the fellowship with your brothers and sisters in Christ, and the love of your family is where you will find real satisfaction and contentment. These things are available to you today. “Live in the day.”

Joy

Webster's dictionary defines Joy as 1) to experience great pleasure or delight : REJOICE, 2) the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune or by the prospect of possessing what one desires.

Joy is different from happiness. Happiness is an emotion that comes from what is going on in our life at the present moment, and that happiness changes as the conditions around us change. Happiness can go away and be replaced by grief or sorrow, but joy can be constant.  Joy is an assurance that God is in control and whatever conditions or circumstances confront us, we can have confidence that everything is going to be alright.

Nehemiah 8:10 "Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength."

Psalm 30:5 "For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning."

Isaiah 12:3 "Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation."

Happiness and good times may come and go, but our joy can remain unchanged.  Joy is based on our relationship with Christ, and our belief that he is in control and always wants what is best for us.

Faith

In our Sunday School class, we have been reading the “faith chapter”, Hebrew 11.  But how do we get Faith?   Belief is not the same thing as Faith. Faith is belief and trust combined, as when Peter walked on the water. Peter did not take time to examine or consider. Jesus bid him to come, and he stepped out and walked on the water. When he took the time to examine where he was or consider what he had done, then his faith went away and he begin to sink.

Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 1: 12-14, “ For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.  Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.  That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.”

So Faith is believing and trusting, in spite of changing conditions or situations.  Faith cannot be based on the ups and downs of life or the changing of our conditions. It has to be based and settled on what we have decided is true, and to what we have committed ourselves.

Romans 10:17 says, “ So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

By staying in the word of God, or the Bible, we can build our belief and trust into Faith, which will carry us through those times of doubt and trials.
