Independence Day

As we head into the celebration of our country¹s Independence. I am reminded of the freedoms for which I am most thankful.  This week, I am thinking about love.  The love that we share with our families and friends is special, but the Love of God is miraculous.  It brings life and hope!

Romans 5:8 says, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

On this Independence day, remember Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice to bring us true love and independence.

Psalms 146:5 (KJV)

Are you happy with where you are in life?  Truly happy?

The world often measures happiness based on wealth and/or career.  Others may turn to their family and friends for their happiness.  While all of these things are nice, unfortunately they do not make for true happiness.   True happiness comes from serving the Lord and having him be your guide in life.

Psalms 146:5 says "Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob as his help, whose hope is the Lord his God"

When we have God's Spirit in our hearts, he provides help, hope and true happiness for our lives.  If you dont have a relationship with God, now is a good time to start one and embrace true happiness.

1 John 3: 7-11

We finished the Easter story a short while ago.  We are all moved by the sacrifice of the God and his Son, but do we understand the purpose, the reason for the sacrifice?

We know that “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son”, but the real purpose was also stated in 1 John 3: 7-11, “Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.  He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.  Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.  In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.”

We call it being Sanctified.

Today

Matthew 6:31-34 states "Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?  (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.  Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

One of the hardest things to do is live in “today”. We all have plans, worries, concerns, etc. but we are only promised NOW. Living in TODAY is hard, because it means giving up control, it means trusting that God will do what is best for us. And even though we have all these biblical promises, we somehow think if we put all our energy and all our focus into everything, it will somehow change the outcome. It may or it may not!  In the meanwhile, we have missed the pleasures of the now.

One day, I was so wrapped up in thoughts, I did not hear my granddaughter tell me she loved me. I have promised myself that will never happen again.

Too Big To Fail

We hear this all the time. We put our money in banks that we think cannot fail, even though most of these banks did not exist when we were younger. We buy stocks in company’s we believe are so big that they cannot fail, companies that did not exist 20 years ago. We put our faith in people we don’t really know or know so little and we are shocked when they fail to live up to their promises.  Yet when we are asked to believe or trust God, we think that is somehow superstitious or even crazy.

Philippians 4: 6-8 states, "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

As a song we sing says:

“YOU HAVE TRIED THE PATH OF WORLDLY PLEASURE
SOUGHT FOR PEACE THE WORLD CAN NEVER GIVE
OH BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU PLACE YOUR TREASURES
YOU NEED ONE TO TEACH YOU HOW TO LIVE.”

Try Jesus, He never fails!
