Faith

In our Sunday School class, we have been reading the “faith chapter”, Hebrew 11.  But how do we get Faith?   Belief is not the same thing as Faith. Faith is belief and trust combined, as when Peter walked on the water. Peter did not take time to examine or consider. Jesus bid him to come, and he stepped out and walked on the water. When he took the time to examine where he was or consider what he had done, then his faith went away and he begin to sink.

Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 1: 12-14, “ For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.  Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.  That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.”

So Faith is believing and trusting, in spite of changing conditions or situations.  Faith cannot be based on the ups and downs of life or the changing of our conditions. It has to be based and settled on what we have decided is true, and to what we have committed ourselves.

Romans 10:17 says, “ So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

By staying in the word of God, or the Bible, we can build our belief and trust into Faith, which will carry us through those times of doubt and trials.

1 Corinthians 2:2

Around 51 AD, the apostle Paul on his missionary journey, travels to Corinth, a huge city of great wealth and diversity. There he lives for 18 months, working as a tentmaker, living with Aquila and his wife Pricilla.

After leaving the City, he writes a letter of encouragement to the new Christians in Corinth which includes the following statement found in the Bible in I Corinthians 2:2: “For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”

From this statement we can conclude the Apostle Paul did not care what their politics were, who was right or who was left. He did not care what their social status was, who had wealth, who did or did not have education. He determined that he would preach Christ to all who would listen, delivering the same message, ”Christ and him crucified” to everyone.

God help me to have the same standard as I go about my daily life!

Hope

The enemy of your soul would have you feel there is no hope.  He would have you feel trapped in a situation or be held hostage by sin, yet there is overwhelming hope, deliverance, and freedom found in the arms of Christ.

Hope is defined as, “Noun - 1. the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best.”

In Hebrews 6: 18-20 we read, “That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:  Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;  Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Christ is our “hope” and grants us “strong consolation”.  Turn to him and cry out to him.  In surrendering your life through obedience to God, you can find hope in your individual life.

Where does God dwell?

From the beginning of creation, God wanted fellowship and to dwell with mankind.  This is evident from the account in the book of Genesis where God had regular communication with Adam and Eve.  This fellowship soon ended because of Adam and Eve’s disobedience which began the separation between sinful man and a Holy God.  However, because of His great love and mercy, God slowly began to reach out to man through Abraham, Moses, and others.  He even began to temporarily dwell with his people by His presence in the Tabernacle in the Wilderness and in Solomon’s Temple.

God then showed his great love by coming to earth and dwelled with us as Jesus Christ.  While here, he showed us how to live and demonstrated his love and compassion.  Ultimately he gave his life as the sacrifice that allows us to be saved from Sin by his presence dwelling in our hearts.  So where does God dwell today?  He dwells with those who seek him with all of their heart!

Jeremiah 29:13 - "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."

Ephesians 2:21-22 - "In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:  In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit."

Your Testimony

Mark 5:19  "Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.."

These are final words from Jesus to a man whom he had recently healed.  Jesus simply commanded the man to tell others about what the Lord had done for him.  People today will dispute Theology and Doctrines, but can’t in any way discredit your personal testimony.  So the challenge for all of us is to tell someone about the compassions of Christ and the great things he has done for you!

Your testimony could make all the difference in someone’s life!
