Peacemakers

Hebrews 12:14 - Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.

This verse teaches that in order to "see the Lord" we must be Holy. The only way to be holy is to have God's Spirit living in our hearts and directing our lives. However, this verse also teaches that promoting peace is related to Holy living. Although our Holiness comes from God, there is always something for us to do. Actively seeking peaceful relationships and resolutions to conflict is part of "Living Holy". The enemy of our soul desires us to have continual conflict and strife. This week recognize the enemy when he tries to bring conflict in your life and remember to follow peace with all men.

Matthew 5:9 - Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Romans 6:8

"Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him." Romans 6:8

To believe in Christ is to be alive, to be changed from darkness to life.  Through faith in Christ we can rise above fear.  We can live an abundant, victorious, overcoming life.  Choose today to believe in Christ and the power of His resurrection, where there are no limits to what the power of God can do in your life.

Choose today to believe.

Luke 9: 57-60

"And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.  Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God."  Luke 9: 57-60

Luke does not identify the men who passionately wanted to follow Jesus.  Were they impressed with Jesus’ teachings and miracles, the fellowship among the Disciples, or maybe they thought this was the latest craze and wanted to join in?  Whatever the reason, these men got a reality check. Jesus did not ask them to follow Him in the literal sense, but to “go and preach the Gospel” and to not return to their former way of life.  To be a disciple of Jesus, it is not about following, but all about doing, without looking back.

Hebrews 12:2

“I will declare thy name unto my brethren; in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.”  Hebrews 12:2

To be able to express ourselves in song in a blessing from God.  Not just beautiful melody and harmony, but a heartfelt expression lifted up to Him. The scriptures admonish us to sing “Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord”  (Ephesians 5:19).  Additionally, we are admonished to “sing with the spirit…and with the understanding also” (II Corinthians 14:15). Other creatures of God’s universe have their own unique sound, but it is human beings that are able to express their deepest convictions and faith with a song.

The Exodus

The record of the Israelite nation breaking free from four centuries of slavery in Egypt is one of the most fascinating stories chronicled in the Bible.  Orchestrated by God and led by Moses, this event and subsequent journey to Canaan, called The Exodus, provides the basis for most of the first five books of Old Testament writings.  God gave these people land on which to build a nation and laws on which to form a civil and religious society.  These laws, or covenant, established a relationship with God had at its core the Ten Commandments.  It is through the rich history of God dealing with the Israelites that we understand the New Testament and salvation through Jesus Christ.

John 1:17 states, "For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ."
