Perfect Love

The world looks for perfection and believes that perfection is something without flaw, and is unattainable, but another definition of perfect is genuine and complete.  The ‘Perfect’ work is when God sanctifies us and puts his ‘Perfect’ love in our hearts. The work is ‘Perfect’ and genuine and complete.  With God’s love in our hearts, leading us daily, we can live the life God wants us to live and do his work as he gives us wisdom to know his will.

1 John 2:5 states, “But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.”

We read in 1 John 4:15-17, “whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.  And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.  Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.  There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.  We love him, because he first loved us.”

And in St. John 17:22-24, we read, “And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:  I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.”

What is Faith and why is it so important?

Hebrews 11:6 says that “without Faith it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

I believe that there was a George Washington, but is that the same as believing in Jesus Christ?  No, because Faith is taking that belief and acting or standing on that belief.  Hebrews 11: 1 says “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.”

Substance comes from the Latin word “Substantia”, which means “stands under” or “grounds things.”  So substance is those things that are foundational or fundamental entities of reality.  Evidence is a sign or proof of the existence or truth of something.  So Faith is taking those spiritual beliefs and behaving and making life decisions as if those beliefs are fact.

The woman that was sick in Matthew 9 said if I can just touch the hem of his garment. She believed in the healing power of Christ, but knew that she had to do something to get the results she needed.  She pressed through the crowd and reached out and touched the hem of his garment.  Jesus knew that someone of faith had touched him, even in the press of the crowd.  Matthew 9:22 says, “But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said Daughter, be of comfort, thy faith hath made thee whole.”  Faith is not the absence of doubt, faith is moving ahead in spite of any doubt.

In Mark 9: 23-24, a man came to Jesus, asking for the healing of his son.  “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou my unbelief.”

So we find that Faith is the sincere obedience to God’s will that is exhibited in our life and our conversations.  Not based on circumstance, but based on the exercise of our beliefs.

The Grace of God

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast."  Ephesians 2:8-9

"For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. 4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life." Titus 3:3–7

With our sins forgiven, we can receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  This blessing is not attributed to any work or merit of our own, but by the grace of God.

If

The word “if” appears in the Bible over 1,600 times. The dictionary defines “if” as a condition or requirement. Salvation is contingent on our willingness to accept conditions and meet the requirements. Several “if” verses Jesus spoke:

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:”  Matthew 6:14

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?”  Matthew 7:11

If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?”  Luke 12:28

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”  John 8:36

“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”  John 14:15

“If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”  John 15:7

In Memory of Cameron Williams

July 1, 1996 - October 6, 2011

I want to live like that
And give it all I have
So that everything I say and do
Points to You
If love is who I am
Then this is where I'll stand
Recklessly abandoned
Never holding back
I want to live like that
I want to live like that

Words by Sidewalk Prophets from song, "Live Like That".
