Judges 2: 10-11 (KJV)

"And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which know not the Lord, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel. And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim."

We have a responsibility to the generations that come behind us to dedicate our lives to Second Blessing Holiness. As this scripture tells us, it only takes one generation of not being active and to impact the generations behind us. It is not just our children that we are impacting. It could be our nieces, nephews, children's friend, and in general those that are watching our lives.

To be successful influences we have to be stalwarts in our faith and service of God. By doing this, we improve the generations behind us instead of handicapping them. No matter your age, you have a responsibility to uphold the banner of Christ and show his power to the ones younger than you.

Exodus 15:2 (KJV)

"The Lord is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him."

I thoroughly enjoyed this previous Sunday evening worship service.  We had testimony meeting where people spoke about songs that meant a lot to them.  In Exodus, the scripture tells us that after the children of Israel escaped the Egyptian army in their departure from bondage, they sang a song.  Many times, songs are reminders of wonderful things God has done in our lives.

Let's remember that God can minister to us in many ways, including the songs we sing.

2 Timothy 1:7

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and a sound mind."  2 Timothy 1:7

During this past week’s Wednesday worship service in which the youth of our church testify, someone gave their testimony about being safe and how God protects us. I have been thinking about that testimony ever since. Life happens to us all, which means that we will experience highs and lows. Sometimes these lows can make us feel like we are not protected. So how does God protect us?

God's protection is in his Spirit that he will graciously give us if we ask. It is a spirit of power, allowing us to face those uncertainties in our lives knowing that we serve the God that controls the universe and can help us get through. It is a spirit of love, knowing that God loves us and wants us to have a successful spiritual life where we share his love with others. It is the spirit of a sound mind, giving us the hope that lies in our spiritual lives if we trust in God and lean on him for protection.

My prayer is that we fully grasp what protection God has for us, and we turn to him in all decisions.

Dedicated

What does it mean to dedicated?  Dictionary.com defines Dedicated as "wholly committed to something, as to an ideal, political cause, or personal goal". In our lives, what things are we wholly dedicated to?  Certainly our family?  Or even our good friends?  Those are wonderful things to be dedicated to, but the most importing thing to be dedicated to is Christ our Savior.  Unless we dedicate our entire life to God and let the Holy Spirit reign within, the other items like family and friends will not be successful.

In the early church, Paul faced several situations that challenged their dedication.  We read in Acts 14: 19-22, “And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.  Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe. And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch, confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God."

In this New Year, my prayer is that we are dedicated enough to face the tribulations of life and "continue in the faith". And just like Paul, pick ourselves up from tribulation, continue telling people about what a wonderful, mighty God we serve, and encourage our brothers and sisters around us to be dedicated as well.

Joy to the World!

One of my favorite traditional Christmas Carols is “Joy to the World”. The Carol begins with Joy to the world, the Lord is come. Let earth receive her King…

In the book of St. Luke the birth of Christ is announced. Luke 2: 8-11 (KJV) states, “And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.”

In spite of the reality that life is not perfect, there is a Joy that our Savior Jesus Christ brings when he comes to live in our hearts. As its written in the letter to the Romans 5:13 (KJV), “Now the God of hope fill you with all Joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”

Let the Joy of Christ abide with you this Christmas Season and always.

Blessings,

Bro. Terry Clelland
