Matthew 9:36 (KJV)

Matthew 9:36 states: “But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.”

The scene that is portrayed by this verse is really quite similar to what we observe now as we go about our daily lives.  If we look at our schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods, we are likely to see multitudes of people who are overwhelmed and going through life without any sustained spiritual direction or purpose.  When Jesus encountered this scene, he was moved with compassion for the people that He saw.  Although we understand the concept of compassion, are we truly moved to act on it?

Jude 1:22 states: “And of some have compassion, making a difference:”

Most people want to make a difference in the lives of the people around them.  I can think of no greater way to do so, than to compassionately share the message of salvation to those around us.  We have found the pearl of great price.  As sanctified children of God, we experience the greatest blessings and joy known to mankind during this life and have an assurance of eternal life.  Let’s not wait for the day that our classmates, coworkers, or neighbors accept our invitation to walk through the doors of our church in order for them to hear the message of salvation.  That day may never happen.  Instead, let’s compassionately take the message of salvation to the people in our schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods and one day we can rejoice with them as they walk through the gates of heaven!

“When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!”
