Choices

Every day we have opportunity to make choices for our life and others around us.  Some choices are small and of no consequence, however othere choices can be life changing.  Today God invites us to choose Him and His ways!

In Deuteronomy 30: 19-20, we have an example of the calling that is set before us each and every day, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:  That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them. So, with the decision before us and phrased this way, it doesn’t appear to be much of a choice, but is this easy?”

We can look to the book of Joshua 1: 7-8, “Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

And another passage from the book of Jeremiah 29: 11-13, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.  Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.  And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”

This is no small decision, it is certainly a determination, and is not something where we simply happen to choose God.  This is an all-in choice, a forsaking of other gods, which can be viewed as anything that would come between us and the one true God.

The final passage that comes to mind on choices and daily living and choosing God can be found in Proverbs 3: 1-6, “My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.  Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:  So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Remember to choose God this week in every little thing.
