1 Samuel 16:7 (KJV)

1 Samuel 16:7 states, “But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.”

This passage from the Bible describes God’s conversation with the prophet Samuel concerning who is to be King over Israel. He is explaining to Samuel that David, who at the time is a young shepherd boy, is to replace Saul as King. From this text, we can clearly see that God is most concerned about man’s inward appearance. King Saul had been disobedient to God’s commands and has shown disrespect and arrogance by making excuses for his actions. Saul may have looked the part of King but God knew what was in his heart. He knew the real King Saul.

Human nature is no different today. Man’s outward appearance is worshipped today more than we realize and is a trap that many fall prey. On the other hand, what God really sees and respects is inner beauty. God wants to see in us a spirit of genuine honesty, integrity, humility, charity, modesty, obedience, etc. These are the qualities in people that God notices. We should strive to be more like God and notice these qualities in others and give them reverence no matter their intellect, social status, or outward appearance.

In 1 Peter 3:4, we read, “But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.”

Have a great week!

Psalms 16:5-6 (KJV)

Psalms 16: 5-6 states, "The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage."

What could we strive for in this temporary life on earth? In the verses above is referenced, inheritance and heritage. These are both given through grace and not of any particular merit, it is, quite simply, a status. Should we be entrusted with temporal gifts, may we endeavor to care for them. How much more our eternal inheritance which God has so graciously given to all who would partake? Once we understand and possess what God has available for us, may He help us take proper care of what He has gifted.

1 Corinthians 15:57 (KJV)

A few things to be thankful for:

"But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."  1 Corinthians 15:57

"Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift."  2 Corinthians 9:15

This can be the true condition of one’s heart, when the gift of the spirit is given.

Strength

Do you consider yourself to be a strong person? Do you think that you have control over your own life? That you are your own Master? Consider the following verses.

In Nehemiah 8:10 we read, "Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength."

Philippians 4:13 states, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

We have a song in our hymn book written by one of our former poets, Bro. Paul Merritt, Sr. The song is written in regards to where our strength lies concerning life, wherein may be some difficulties or successes: “No matter how the road, no matter how the weather, strength for the day comes from above.”

Remember to take the time to commune with the creator, the giver of life and a true source of strength.

Colossians 3:11 (KJV)

Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
Colossians 3:11

The blessing of Christ knows no boundaries.  Anywhere you could go, country or continent, Christ can meet you there.  His love, mercy and goodness transcend any thought we could have of constraining or limiting the work and love of Christ.

Anyone, anywhere has the opportunity to know the love of Christ today.
