Luke 2:15-16 (KJV)

Luke 2:15-16 states “And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.  And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.”

As I think about how quickly the shepherds responded to hearing the news of the birth of Jesus, it serves as an illustration of how quickly sinners should respond to the call of God.  Titus 2:11-12 states “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.”  Just as the shepherds came with haste to seek Jesus, following the appearance of the angels, so sinners should come with haste to seek Jesus, following the appearance of the grace of God.

“God is calling the prodigal, come without delay.”
From the hymn Calling The Prodigal by Charles H. Gabriel
