There is a Spiritual Dimension

Have you given much thought to how the Apostles felt during the period of Jesus’ crucifixion?  Through their human eyes, with emotions at their highest level, the crucifixion had to be scary and very confusing.  The Jews so wanted deliverance from the Roman occupation and his disciples thought Jesus would provide that deliverance. They had left all to follow Jesus and had assumed he would set up a physical kingdom.  In spite of everything He told them, the human eye saw some encouragement to that physical kingdom, as he rode into Jerusalem as a king with the crowds praising him and spreading palm leaves.  They had seen all the miracles and knew His power; he had just days before reattached the high priest’s servant ear.  Why wouldn’t he deliver himself and those he loved from this seemingly total destruction of everything that was important?

As the world they knew was ending, their faith was lacking.  He had told them that he would be resurrected, but when they received reports that he is risen, they thought they were receiving “idle tales”.  Even with the earthquake and the darkening of the sun, they didn’t see the dimension that is beyond physical sight.

In the spiritual realm there was always clarity.  Once Jesus said “nevertheless, not my will, but thine, be done”, it was clear that every prophesy regarding Christ from the enmity between Satan and the woman (Genesis 3:15) would be fulfilled.  There was never any defeat, but our salvation was purchased by “Victory in Jesus, my Savior Forever, he sought me and he bought my by his redeeming blood”.  All the prophesies and the law had been a schoolmaster to bring us to the sacrifice and victory in Christ.   In Rev. 6.2 “and I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering and to conquer.”  It goes on in 17:14 to say “These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord and lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful”.

So in those times when life may seem confusing and overwhelming, help us to look through our spiritual eye and be “called, and chosen, and faithful”.  Much like Elisha prayed for his servant in II Kings 6:17 “Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see.   And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire”.
