Thought for the Week

As a parent of a child that is no longer under my roof and two more that will be gone before I know it, I always want them to know where home is. This is a new and challenging part of life for me. No matter where they go or what may happen, I want them to know that home is where they can come for guidance, rest, peace, safety, etc… I know parents everywhere with grown kids that understand this feeling.

I got to thinking this week that despite knowing where my physical home is, there is a location, not listed on any map, that I want my children to know is “home”. That home offers better guidance, rest, peace and safety than I could ever provide and in the end a home in heaven. That home is a right relationship with God the Father guided by the indwelling of his Holy Spirit.

In Luke 15: 3-6 describes a story of the Shepherd that leaves the 99 sheep, goes into the wilderness to find one sheep that is lost, and looks until he finds it. My point is that if today you may are “lost”, you feel that getting home may be too far. The devil will tell you that there are too many things in your life, too many challenging situations, too many bad habits that keep you from getting back home. The scripture mentioned above tells us just the opposite. It tells those individuals who are away from home that God is searching for you, meeting you where you are.  And the in the 6th verse of Luke 15 it says, "And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost”.

All you need to do is be still, stop running, get on your knees and God will find you. He will meet you in your wilderness and take you Home.
