1 John 3:8 (KJV)

As we have entered the month of December, my mind has been drawn to the popular saying “Jesus is the reason for the season.”  Certainly, the birth of our precious Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ is what ought to be acknowledged and celebrated during this time of year.  As I think of the reason for Jesus’ birth, many scriptures come to mind, but I can think of no place that states it as clearly and succinctly as I John 3:8: “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.”  As we celebrate Jesus’ birth, this Christmas and throughout the new year, let’s boldly tell others about the purpose of His birth, life, death, and resurrection.
