Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)


Solomon, widely regarded as the wisest man who ever lived, shared numerous spiritual truths in Proverbs and Ecclesiastes. The ultimate point of Solomon’s writings is contained in Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 which states “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” Note, this passage begins with the words “Let us”. Solomon exhorted himself, as well as the reader, to hear the conclusion and to be obedient to it.

Similarly, Paul speaks about how he made sure that he was living in obedience to God, while preaching the gospel to others. I Corinthians 9:26-27 states “I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”
