Living for God

Once we are sanctified, it is then that we can really start living. We no longer have to be bound by sin and all that it brings into our life. Once his Spirit is in our hearts, we will experience love for our fellow man like we have never felt.  Peace will abound.  Our outlook for the future will change from despair and hopelessness to joy and to great purpose. Our desire to do good and to spread His “good news” will come naturally.

Will there be trials, disappointments, and times of hurt after we are sanctified?  Of course there will be.  Even though God is with us, we must live in an evil world.  Jesus understood this and prayed for his disciples in St John 17:15 - I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.  During difficult times, we will learn to lean on Jesus and trust His promises. This is part of “growing in the Lord”.

The Spirit of the Lord will teach us how to live in many ways. He will instruct us on how to interact with our families, neighbors, and co-workers. We will also discover that he requires us to prefer others ahead of ourselves. Living a sanctified life will require sacrifice. There will be times when the Lord will convict us of things in our lives that will cause spiritual harm. He will gently show us that these things must be sacrificed for Him.

Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.  John 15:2

Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.  Hebrews 12:11

Living for God requires a life of holiness which only possible with Him in our hearts. Without His spirit, living for Him is impossible.

But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
I Peter 1:15 and 16

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.  Hebrews 12:14

For in him we live, and move, and have our being… Acts 17:28
