Matthew 9:35-38 (KJV)

Matthew 9:35-38 states, "And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest."

I had a few thoughts during the Thanksgiving holiday about the laborers, and why they are few. Since I began working in the commercial roofing industry, I have found it is hard to find willing laborers. The reason behind that is the work is strenuous, it typically requires doing work that no one cares to do, and it has very little pay. People often overlook this position because it’s viewed as a lower ranking job. Jesus is speaking to his disciples saying that the harvest, which is the lost souls in the world, is plenteous.  There is an abundance of people that need the gospel preached to them, but He needs workers. Jesus is calling for labourers to work for him Him. This isn’t going to be suit and tie ministry, but one that has tireless, unrecognized work, and can sometimes be rather difficult. God is looking for willing workers. He is looking for ones that will go through the tough times of the ministry to advance His Kingdom. Let us be found being laborers for Him and as we do so, let us share the love of Christ with others with whom we come in contact.

So my charge this week is for you to examine your spiritual experience with God and see if you are willing to go wherever He wants you to go. Are you truly a laborer for Him? He is looking for a solider He can trust. If you don’t have the Spirit of God in your heart, I ask you to consider your ways. God has a plan for your life and wants to use you for His purpose and glory.
